Extend A Care

September is Community Involvement month here at work, so we were all strongly encouraged to find an event where we could donate our time and give back to the community. I chose to join the team volunteering at Extend A Care here in Austin last Friday. Extend-A-Care for Kids provides on-site after-school childcare at elementary schools in Austin, Del Valle and Hays Consolidated ISDs. Their programs are designed to accommodate the needs of working parents by being both affordable and high in quality. Their mission: Extend-A-Care for Kids supports families, schools, and communities by providing enriching, affordable, and licensed childcare to children of working parents.

We were asked to sort through their current library, build bookshelves, label and categorize new books and put them all up on the newly constructed shelves. It was amazing to see how quickly we made our way through 20,000 books, both new and old, and built 20 new bookshelves when they had only targeted 8. It was a good day filled with hard work and some quality time with coworkers. This is one of the things that makes me proud to work for this company. I work with some really great people!
