12 week appt

We had our appointment on Thursday this week.  This was our regularly scheduled visit and also the early screening for three chromosomal disorders (most commonly Downs).  With an indepth ultrasound and a finger prick, they are supposed to be able to assess my risk levels within about a week or so.

This baby was moving all around!  While I thought this would make things more difficult, the sonographer said that was actually beneficial.  If we couldn't get the right angle to see the profile and spine, the baby would just move again and give us another view.  When baby didn't move, she's bounce the little ultrasound gadget on my belly and baby would move again.  It was the neatest thing to see these little legs stretch out and then curl back up again.  The baby's heartbeat was 157 this time around and the sonographer said everything "looks good."

Heath was mesmorized by the ultrasound.  He stood right up next to the monitor and was inspecting everything we saw.  He says he counted and he's sure the left hand has 5 fingers and thinks he could see all the toes.  He also thinks the baby has a chin, too, which if you know Heath, you know is a big deal to him.  He is also pretty sure he saw proof that baby is a boy, but I think this may be more wishful thinking at this point.   ;)

Our appt with the dr was very quick.  Just talked over the test, when we needed to come in next (Feb 11th) and that the appointment after that would be our anatomy scan.  So, still looks like mid March to find out for certain if baby Chapman is a boy or a girl.  I asked the doctor if we could try to hear the heartbeat on the doppler because we brought a little recorder and he humored us.  We did hear it and it's saved on this super small recorder that will fit in my scrapbook.  (my latest score at Archiver's)  Nicole looked pretty amazed to hear it :)

So there you have it ... all continues to be great in the Chapman household!

So exciting!
It was so neat to hear the heartbeat on that little recorder - so fast! It sounded like a little rabbit!
