It's an Austin tradition and one that I try to make happen each year. Heath's brother, Jeremy, and his family invited us to join them at Huts for dinner before we made our way ...slowly ... down to see the lights. Wow - traffic has really picked up in recent years! This is not such a small town anymore and the secret is out. Huts was the perfect stop to break up the driving!
We had a great time walking off those burgers and all the frings we ate as we looked at all the lights. Well, the lights that were working. We were sad to see how many lights were out .. huge sections at a time, entire displays AND the canopy at the end :( The sign at the beginning of the trail stated just over one million lights and Heath wanted to take a sharpie and fix that sign!
Nicole and Paige could name almost every single character on display and had to stop at the end to sing the 12 days of Christmas next to the oversized numbers. They pulled Lauren into just as much singing as they could! The weather was crazy .. we just had sleet and now we're taking off our light jackets and rolling up our sleeves .. in December! Gotta love Christmas in Texas!
After our 1.25 mile walk through the trail, we made our way over to the Tree (my personal favorite) for some spinning, hot cocoa and funnel cake.
The trick to spinning so close to the middle is to have one person on point so you don't knock yourself into the pole!

So much fun. We'll probably attempt to hit the trail when it's below freezing outside to skip the crowd. And that sucks about the displays. Maybe we'll just hit the tree.
